Teeth In One Day:

One of the complaints that are common among people who have a dental implant treatment is that they have to wait six months of healing after their implants are installed. This waiting time leaves them with no teeth, or with temporary dentures.

Teeth in One Day is the solution to this and allows patients to walk away with a fixed set of replacement teeth on the very same day that they have their implants. This procedure is also known as All-On-4 dental implants, or Same Day dental implants, and is a modern treatment that has many benefits.

Patients go for implants as normal, but in this case, only 4 dental implants are necessary for a full arch of replacement teeth. The implants are fixed at a 45-degree angle at the back, allowing them to set well with the bone tissue, and support your jaw and replacement teeth. Your dental implant dentist will then attach a fixed replacement set onto the dental implants on the day of surgery, hence ‘teeth in 1 day’.

A few months later, when the dental implants have had time to heal, you’ll revisit the surgery for a simple procedure in which your dental implant dentist replaces the temporary teeth with a new set of permanent teeth.

Zirconia Dental Implants

Most of the commonly used dental implants are made of titanium and have been since the late 1960s when it was discovered that the metal bonding well with bone cells in a process known as osseointegration. Zirconia implants break that mold and are made out of ceramic commonly used in aerospace engineering, but that also has great success in its use for hip replacements; zirconium oxide.

Zirconia dental implants are durable, extremely biocompatible and fuse well with the bone, and have a high resistance to fracture. One of the main differences to the patient is aesthetic.

Zirconia is a grey-white color that happens to be very similar to the color of natural teeth, giving an instantly more natural look than titanium.

Although zirconia implants are gaining popularity, titanium is still the most used material, and a longer and wider body of research currently supports its use. Time will only tell whether Zirconia ceramic implants are superior, but for now, patients do have the options for this dental implant treatment.

Zygomatic Dental Implants

One of the problems with dental implants as a solution for edentulous patients is that the treatment may not always be available for people who have a weak or low density of jawbone. The Zygomatic dental implants are one of the solutions to this problem and were pioneered by Professor Branemark in Sweden, in 1989. They have since shown a phenomenal long term success rate of 96.8%, and are still used as a valid treatment today. The Zygomatic dental implants are similar to a standard dental implant procedure, at least from the patient’s point of view.

Two dental implants are fitted at the back of the upper jaw, and two to four are fitted at the front of the upper jaw, to support the set of replacement teeth.

There are a couple of significant differences though. The Zygomatic implants are longer than usual. This extra length has a purpose. The dental implants are fixed not to the jawbone as is usually the case, but to the Zygoma, commonly known as the cheekbone.

The cheekbone has been found to have significantly large enough bone density to allow patients who would regularly be denied treatment to enjoy the benefits of a fixed, permanent set of teeth, without the need for any bone grafting surgery, which can be extensive and costly.

No-Bone Solution

People with very little bone in the upper jaw (known medically as severely atrophic maxilla), are often denied traditional dental implant treatment, leaving them with very few options apart from dentures. The No-bone solution is one solution to this. It uses a combination of guided dental implant surgery with the rehabilitation of the severely atrophic maxilla, in order that the patient is able to have dental implants without the need for a lengthy bone grafting procedure.

Snap-on Dentures

Ordinary dentures are removable, but they also sometimes have trouble staying in your mouth, and can’t always provide the same level of functionality as other methods. Snap-on dentures are replacement teeth in the form of dentures that are secured onto a set of 4-5 implants. This gives them much more security and stability than ordinary dentures. It is important to remember that the dentures are removable, and must be taken out and cleaned. They simply snap back on to your implants.

As well as the extra stability, snap-on dentures do not have a palate. This means that there is nothing touching the top of your mouth, which makes them much more comfortable, especially for people who are usually bothered by their dentures touching the top of their mouth.

It is possible to have a partial or full set of teeth replaced with snap-on dentures. In the case of partial replacement you are often able to keep your existing teeth, while replacing missing ones with beautifully natural looking replicas. The dentures are expertly molded to perfectly fit the individual patient’s mouth.
